Presidental Election

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Who’s going to win?  How do you feel about that?

As I traveled around the world this month, the news of the impending US Presidential election was everywhere.  Seemingly, it isn’t just a US matter any more.  Plenty of websites are even allowing global voting – to see what the rest of the world thinks about who should sit in this incredibly powerful chair.

This week on Twitter Laureate we are going to let you chime in with your thoughts as we come to T minus 7 days and counting.  You can tweet about

  • Who you want to win
  • Who you fear will win
  • Your interest or your apathy
  • What do you think about the election upcoming?

It’s your 140 characters.  All I ask is that you use 3 of them for the #tl tag so we can pull them all together at the end and see what you said vs. what really happened.

Happy Tweeting!

Tweet Your Cause – Part Deux

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

If you had to invite me to join a cause, what would it be?  Make your pitch in poetic form and tag it with a #tl.  Over the last couple week’s I’ve been asked to joing a whole list of “causes” on Facebook. I know this is an active thing these days.  Not many offered up on this topic over the last week, but I don’t think that’s because of a lack of worthy causes.

Save the environment

Save the whales

Cure breast cancer

Fresh water in africa

Obama/McCain for president

Literacy for all

Homes for everyone

What is your Cause?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Tweet a poem about your favorite cause.  Literacy?  Clean water?  Election reform?  Whatever it is, here is your chance to tell us all about it.  If you feel really passionate, you can tweet more than once.

Twitter Laureate seeks to be socially aware and provide a forum over the twitter medium to advance the cause of good.  All we need is you to do your part.

To get credit for you tweet, tag it with #TL and we’ll all be sure to read it.

Presidential Debates

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

There is no bad opinion (only bad poetry).  Proclaim who you think won.  Share a thought on the process of the debate.  Even comment on the moderator.  Or if you are tired of the whole circus just tell us how tired of all the hoopla you are.  Apologies to those of you who are not in the United States… However, I think this election is getting visibility around the world as McCain and Obama battle it out to sit behind the Resolute Desk.

As always, tag your tweet wtih the #tl hashtags so you can participate in the communty voting later.  And don’t forget to check out last week’s tweets and vote for your favorite on twitterlaureate.net.

Economic Melt Down

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Will you do your share for the embattled American financial markets?

As the American financial markets melt down and the Congress struggles to come to consensus about how to save the economy, you can take action!  Post a poetic tweet sharing your take on what is going on.   No, it probably won’t avert the course of disaster or recovery, but you’ll certainly feel better. :)   Feel free to be as political or partisan as you like.  There are no right answers… only passionate poems of 140 characters or less.

Don’t forget to tag the tweet with #tl so that it can get picked up and participate in the tweet voting next week.  That promises to be a race as hotly contended as the American Presidential campaigns!

Fine Wine

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The fruit of the vine. Bacchus’ Delight.  What is your favorite region, varietal, vintage… You tell us. We don’t know. When is the best time to drink fine wine? What is the kind of wine you prefer to avoid? So many questions and so few characters. You might have to tweet your answer in more than one part.

Above all, be poetic and “beautiful” in your answer. The topic deserves no less.

And for the un-beatutiful part of this post, don’t forget to tag your tweet with a #tl so everyone else can find out what you said. To see the tweets that have gone before, click here.

Tweet an ode to Virtue

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

This week we’ll swing the pendulum the other direction and allow you to celebrate your best virtue.  Hopefully, this will stand in stark contrast to the recitation of vices last week.

The rules are the same.  Twitter limits you to 140 characters, but you need to somehow include the #tl tag for your post to be included.  Some people are creative and work it into their tweet.  Others simply sacrifice 4 characters.  Either way, it’s all part of the game. :)

Twitter Laureate – What is your Vice?

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Everyone has a vice.  Some are big, and others small and mostly harmless.  I’m thinking of it as that special weakness you indulge or the habit you practice when you are under stress.  For some people it’s chocolate.  Others like to play cards.  What’s yours.

Submit a short tweet (of course all tweets are short) exposing your vice in poetic form.  Or, if you feel so inclined, invent a new vice for yourself.  Don’t forget to mark it with #tl so that the Twitter Laureate community can find it and enjoy it.

Happy Tweeting.

Microsoft Ditty

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

This week’s Twitter Laureate theme focuses on Microsoft.  Love ‘em or hate ‘em you surely have something to say.  140 characters isn’t a lot, so chose them wisely.  Use any poetic form you like.  Just remember to use the #tl tag so you get included in the judging (yes we’re getting ready to start that phase now).
